Vero Beach, FL – The holiday season officially arrived on the barrier island as the 40th annual Vero Beach Christmas Parade transformed Ocean Drive into a winter wonderland. Hosted by the Sunrise Rotary Vero Beach Club, the beloved tradition drew thousands of spectators who lined the route from Flamevine to Live Oak to witness a dazzling procession of holiday magic.
The atmosphere was electric as 91 lighted floats made their way down the strip. In true Florida fashion, the displays blended traditional holiday imagery with local tropical flair. Spectators were treated to sights of a sleigh-riding sailfish, manatees, and flamingos sharing the street with classic characters like the Grinch. The sensory experience was heightened by blaring holiday music, floating bubbles, and artificial “snow” covering the crowd.
Event Highlight: While Santa Claus is traditionally the star of the show, the Vero Beach High School football team received a thunderous ovation, with crowd excitement amplified by the team’s fresh victory in the semifinal playoffs the previous evening.
For those unable to attend the crowded oceanfront event, the parade was livestreamed via social media, ensuring the entire community could participate. Masters of Ceremonies Tamara Darress and Geoff Moore provided commentary throughout the evening, keeping the energy high.
Community Charity Efforts
The festive spirit extended beyond the parade route. The Sunrise Rotary also celebrated the success of its annual “Can Castle for a Cause – Challenge & Food Drive,” which took place during the October Downtown Friday event. Local businesses and organizations were challenged to construct elaborate structures entirely out of canned foods, combining engineering skills with philanthropy.
The gathered food was donated to local charities and victims of recent hurricane damage in Jamaica. Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home secured this year’s trophy, winning for an American flag-themed creation judged on creativity, teamwork, and the volume of cans utilized.
