In a roundup of action reported by Treasure Coast Newspapers, several local teams competed in district quarterfinals, with results shaping the bracket for the upcoming semifinals scheduled for Wednesday.
District 7-7A Quarterfinals: Vero Beach vs. Fort Pierce Central
In the District 7-7A bracket, the No. 5 seeded Vero Beach squad faced off against No. 4 Fort Pierce Central on the road. The Cobras delivered a commanding performance to defend their home court, defeating Vero Beach by a final score of 66-26.
According to the game report, Fort Pierce Central established dominance early, outscoring Vero Beach 22-7 in the first eight minutes of play. The Cobras’ defense was stifling throughout the contest, holding Vero Beach to single-digit scoring in every quarter. With the loss, Vero Beach ends their season with an 8-12 record. Fort Pierce Central (9-12) advances to face the top-seeded St. Lucie West Centennial on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Upcoming Action: Sebastian River to Host Semifinal
While Vero Beach exited the tournament, action continues for other Indian River County schools. In District 13-5A, top-seeded Sebastian River is preparing to host a semifinal matchup this Wednesday. Their opponent will be Port St. Lucie (8-10), who advanced after a 54-13 rout of Okeechobee on Monday.
Regional Highlights: South Fork Advances
One of the standout individual performances of the night occurred in the District 13-5A quarterfinals. No. 3 South Fork (20-6) defeated No. 6 Legacy 73-46, propelled by a high-scoring effort from a standout freshman.
Freshman guard Khloe Rodgers led the way for hosts, pouring in 34 points with three rebounds, four assists and four steals. Elsewhere, sophomores Kylee Brooks and Vivianna Morales each scored in double figures.
South Fork is now scheduled to travel to No. 2 Jensen Beach for their semifinal game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
