Families in Indian River County seeking educational and outdoor fun for their children this upcoming spring break have a fantastic new option available right on the water. The Environmental Learning Center (ELC) in Vero Beach has announced a series of nature-focused camp sessions designed to immerse young explorers in the unique ecosystem of the Indian River Lagoon.

Located at 255 Live Oak Drive, the 64-acre lagoon-island nature center serves as a hub for environmental education and wellness. For this year’s spring break, the ELC is offering single-day camps that blend hands-on outdoor exploration with interactive discovery. The sessions are scheduled for March 30th and 31st and will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The programming is divided into two age-appropriate groups to ensure the best experience for every camper:

  • Junior Naturalist: Designed for children ages 6 to 8.
  • Senior Naturalist: Designed for children ages 9 to 12.
  • Parents have the flexibility to sign their children up for a single day or both days. The ELC has emphasized that these programs are designed to spark curiosity about Florida’s native ecosystems through activities across their expansive campus, which includes boardwalk trails, aquariums, and touch tanks.

The Environmental Learning Center serves as a nature hub dedicated to educating visitors about Florida’s ecosystems and promoting environmental protection and personal wellness.

    Registration and Scholarships
Space for these popular spring break sessions is limited, and families are encouraged to act quickly. Registration is currently open at the ELC website. To ensure accessibility for all local families, the ELC offers member discounts and has made scholarships available for those who qualify. Scholarship applications can be submitted via email to info@discoverelc.org.

To prepare for a full day of adventure, campers are required to bring the following items:

  • A reusable water bottle.
  • An eco-friendly lunch each day.
  • Hats and sunscreen for sun protection.
  • Bug spray.
  • For additional information regarding the camp curriculum or registration assistance, parents can contact the Environmental Learning Center directly at (772) 589-5050. This initiative continues the nonprofit’s long-standing mission to connect the community with the natural world, utilizing their facilities—including pontoon boat tours, kayak excursions, and animal exhibits—to foster a love for the environment in the next generation.
