Residents of the Treasure Coast community are being urged to remain vigilant following a weekend shooting in nearby Fort Pierce. A local man is currently hospitalized after being discovered on a public sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound.
According to the Fort Pierce Police Department, the incident unfolded late Sunday evening. At approximately 9:45 p.m., officers reported hearing active gunfire echoing through the neighborhood near 23rd Street and Avenue E. When law enforcement arrived at the location to investigate the disturbance, they located the injured male victim. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Upon arrival, officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. FPPD says investigators determined the suspect was seen fleeing the area toward the 1100 block of Avenue E.
Following initial inquiries, investigators have released a preliminary description of the suspected shooter. Law enforcement is currently searching for an individual described as having dreadlocks, who was last seen wearing:
- A black hoodie
- Black pants
The suspect was reportedly observed fleeing the scene toward the 1100 block of Avenue E. The Fort Pierce Police Department maintains an active investigation into the shooting and is relying on the public to help generate new leads.
