The Treasure Coast recently embraced a spectacular display of patriotism as the Fort Pierce waterfront transformed into a vibrant sea of red, white, and blue. The 16th Annual Patriotic Boat Parade & Blessing of the Fleet brought the local boating community together to celebrate Independence Day in true Florida fashion.
Hosted by the Fort Pierce Yacht Club, this year’s maritime procession held special historical significance. It was officially recognized as an America250 celebration, making it a premier holiday event for the surrounding region.
The Fort Pierce event stood out as the only sanctioned America250 celebration on the Treasure Coast for the Fourth of July, highlighting the area’s strong community spirit and dedication to honoring the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
Boaters from across the area proudly showcased their festive vessels. The parade kicked off in the Turning Basin near Derecktor Shipyards, led by an exciting group of eight eFoil and foil assist riders, before making its way through the Fort Pierce Inlet toward Jetty Park. In total, 56 boats and watercraft participated in the patriotic journey. Although the organizers had set an ambitious goal of 250 vessels to match the America250 theme, the enthusiastic turnout, waving flags, and elaborately decorated boats created a memorable spectacle for all who lined the waterfront.
The event featured several highlights that made the day truly special for Treasure Coast residents:
- Blessing of the Fleet: On the return route, each vessel received a special blessing for safe passage and protection from Father Robert Goodrich of Holy Family Catholic Church.
- Christmas in July: Adding a touch of unexpected whimsy to the Florida summer heat, Santa Claus made a surprise appearance aboard the participating vessel, the Red Baron.
- Community Safety: Ensuring a secure and orderly environment for participants and spectators alike, the parade route was heavily supported by local law enforcement, the U.S. Coast Guard, TowBoatUS, Florida Fish and Wildlife officers, and Fort Pierce Code Enforcement.
This annual tradition continues to be a shining example of the Treasure Coast’s vibrant waterfront lifestyle, bringing together neighbors, families, and maritime enthusiasts to honor the nation’s independence upon our beautiful local waters.
