Sodalis Vero Beach Honors Resident’s 105th Birthday with Special Celebration
The community of Sodalis Vero Beach is coming together to honor an extraordinary local resident as she reaches a rare and remarkable milestone. Mary, a beloved member of the senior living facility since 2024, is celebrating her 105th birthday. Known for her grace, boundless creativity, and profound kindness, she continues to serve as an inspiration to both her fellow residents and the facility’s dedicated staff.
Born in Turkey on April 17, 1921, Mary’s life has been defined by resilience and an enduring pursuit of her dreams. A devoted wife to her late husband, Nazif, and a loving mother to two sons, she first visited the United States in 1956. Captivated by the country, she harbored a deep desire to make it her permanent home. That dream was fully realized in 1966 when she officially immigrated and proudly became a naturalized United States citizen.
Professionally, Mary built an impressive and successful career in fashion design. She worked for McCall’s Magazine Company as a designer of women’s dresses, with several of her stunning creations earning the prestige of being featured on the publication’s covers. A master seamstress, she crafted her own wardrobe to keep up with the latest styles of the era. Her creative talents extended into the culinary arts as well; she was widely admired for her exceptional cooking and frequently hosted dinner parties where guests would eagerly request her recipes.
Even after the passing of her husband, Mary refused to let her creative spirit diminish. She transitioned her artistic focus to designing stylish handbags and custom jewelry from the comfort of her home. As the years went on, her generous nature took center stage. In a remarkable act of philanthropy, Mary hand-knitted approximately 600 scarves, which she carefully packaged and shipped to organizations serving individuals experiencing homelessness in colder Northern states.
A life defined by resilience, creativity, and generosity, Mary’s journey from Turkey to a celebrated designer and philanthropist highlights an incredible 105 years of lasting community impact.
To commemorate her incredible journey, Sodalis Vero Beach organized a special birthday celebration gathering for April 15. The afternoon event brought together Sodalis leadership, staff, fellow residents, family, and friends to properly honor the lasting, positive impact she continues to make on everyone around her.
