Law enforcement officials in Indian River County are actively searching for the driver of a sports utility vehicle involved in a severe hit-and-run collision in Sebastian. The incident, which left a pedestrian with serious injuries, occurred when the suspect vehicle struck a man who was walking within a designated crosswalk.
A pedestrian sustained serious injuries after being struck by a light-colored SUV in a Sebastian crosswalk. The driver fled the scene without rendering aid, prompting an ongoing police search and a public appeal for community assistance to identify the suspect.
According to the Sebastian Police Department, officers responded to the scene at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25. The crash took place near the intersection of U.S. 1 and Main Street, just north of Sebastian Boulevard. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered the injured pedestrian lying in the roadway. Investigators confirmed that the driver of the vehicle made no attempt to stop to assist the victim, instead continuing to travel southbound away from the collision.
Interim Police Chief Tim Wood confirmed that the victim was transported to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for specialized emergency treatment. At this stage of the investigation, the victim’s age and town of residence have not been publicly disclosed.
In an effort to track down the responsible party, the Sebastian Police Department is urging residents and daily commuters across the Treasure Coast to remain vigilant.
