A late-night disturbance in a Sebastian residential neighborhood on Friday culminated in severe injuries and an attempted murder charge for a local man. The Sebastian Police Department responded to the 200 block of Periwinkle Drive, located south of Barber Street and west of U.S. 1, where a violent physical altercation involving a weapon took place.
According to authorities, 36-year-old Daniel Fontanez attacked two individuals. A 44-year-old man sustained serious bodily injuries and was airlifted to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. A 34-year-old woman involved in the incident suffered minor injuries after also being struck by the suspect’s weapon.

“Within approximately one hour of the attack taking place, Fontanez was located and taken into custody without any further incident or injury. There is no known risk of public safety at this time as it relates to this incident.”
While the Indian River County Jail website initially listed a charge of second-degree murder, Sebastian Police Chief Tim Wood quickly clarified to the public that neither victim had died. Fontanez is currently being held at the jail without bond on multiple serious offenses. His official charges include:
- Attempted second-degree murder
- Criminal attempt
- Burglary of an occupied conveyance
- Battery
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the investigation remains active. Out of respect for the victims directly impacted by this violent event, the Sebastian Police Department has stated that no further information is available at this time.
