The vibrant community of Vero Beach recently witnessed an unforgettable evening of high-flying entertainment as the City of Vero Beach Recreation Department presented the 52nd annual Aerial Antics Youth Circus. Held at the Saint Edward’s School Gonzalez Lobo Activities Center, the beloved summer spectacle embraced a nostalgic Takeover theme, drawing creative inspiration from memorable 2016 pop culture hits.

Performers ranging in age from 3 to 21, all participants in the Leisure Square Gymnastics and Aerial Antics Youth Circus programs, delivered a breathtaking showcase. The talented local youth captivated the audience with a dynamic blend of delicate aerial acrobatics on silken ribbons and hoops, energetic dance numbers, and awe-inspiring power tumbling on the mats. The meticulous choreography and polished production values were a true labor of love from the city’s recreation and gymnastics staff, who personally doubled as creative directors to design costumes, build props, and curate the music.

Emphasizing the program’s long-standing positive impact on the Treasure Coast, event emcee Laurie Lee highlighted the core mission of the Aerial Antics initiative during her opening remarks.

As one of Vero Beach’s most cherished traditions, our circus continues to prove that with hard work, passion, and encouragement, children can accomplish amazing things.

Beyond the incredible physical feats, the evening served as a heartwarming celebration of leadership, education, and personal growth within Indian River County. Special recognition was given to dedicated staff members achieving major educational milestones, including Rylie Walker, Saniah Smith, and Haley Foulks. The community also bid a fond farewell to outgoing high school seniors who have been participating at Leisure Square since they were toddlers. Notably, Chaniah Gibson, a recent Sebastian River High School graduate planning to study clinical psychology, and Kares Hasenauer, who is preparing to study abroad, were honored for their years of unwavering commitment to the program.

The spectacular evening concluded with a showstopping Olympic-themed routine, where performers wielded Hula Hoops to symbolize the Olympic rings and promote global unity through sports.

For Vero Beach families looking to get involved in future local festivities, the City of Vero Beach Recreation Department has announced several highly anticipated upcoming events:

  • October 17: Gymnastics registration opens at the Leisure Square facility.
  • October 31: The 66th annual Halloween Parade brings spooky family fun to Downtown Vero Beach.
  • December 13: The Performing Arts Holiday Drama graces the stage at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.

By promoting self-esteem and providing vital performing experience in a non-competitive environment, the Aerial Antics Youth Circus remains a cornerstone of youth development in Vero Beach, continuously fostering the physical, mental, and emotional capabilities of our local youth.
