Shoppers in Indian River County can look forward to expanded grocery options in the new year, as the discount supermarket chain Aldi confirms plans to open specific new locations in Vero Beach and Sebastian in early 2026. This expansion is part of a massive nationwide push by the German-based retailer to add more than 180 new stores, many of which are conversions of former Winn-Dixie locations.

For residents of the Treasure Coast, the transition involves familiar addresses. According to recent filings and local reports, the company is actively converting sites previously held by Southeastern Grocers. The local footprint for the discount grocer is set to grow significantly, offering relief to consumers looking to cut grocery spending.

New Aldi Locations Coming to the Treasure Coast

While Aldi opened numerous stores across Florida last year, the early months of 2026 will see the grand openings of two key locations in Indian River County, along with a planned site in St. Lucie County.

The confirmed locations identified for conversion include:

  • Vero Beach: 2950 Ninth St. S.W. (Opening early 2026)
  • Sebastian: 995 Sebastian Blvd. (Opening early 2026)
  • Fort Pierce: 4870 N. Kings Highway (No specific opening date announced yet)
  • These new storefronts are part of the nearly 80 Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s Supermarket locations Aldi retained and planned to convert following its acquisition activities in 2024 and 2025.

    CEO Highlights Focus on Efficiency

The rapid growth of the brand is driven by high consumer demand for value. In a statement regarding the 2026 expansion, Aldi U.S. CEO Atty McGrath noted the company’s increasing market share.

“One in three U.S. households shopped at ALDI this past year, and in 2026 we’re focused on making it even easier for customers to shop our aisles first.”

To support this influx of new stores, Aldi is also strengthening its supply chain within the state. The company announced plans to open a new distribution center in Florida in 2027 and is currently expanding its existing facility in Haines City to include a new chilled center for perishable foods. This logistics upgrade is designed to improve the delivery of fresh meats and produce to stores across the Southeast, including those here on the Treasure Coast.

What About the Remaining Winn-Dixie Stores?

While some locations are transforming into Aldi markets, the Winn-Dixie brand is not disappearing. The Winn-Dixie Company has announced a strategic shift to focus almost exclusively on its Florida heritage. The company plans to remodel dozens of existing locations to be more community-friendly.

These remodeled Winn-Dixie stores are expected to feature expanded liquor portfolios, more store-branded products—including the return of “Lip Lickin’ Chicken” in early 2026—and modern conveniences like third-party online grocery delivery and return kiosks.
