The skies over Indian River County are set to roar this spring as the legendary U.S. Navy Blue Angels return to the Treasure Coast to headline the highly anticipated Vero Beach Air Show. Scheduled for May 15 through May 17, the elite flight demonstration squadron will showcase their breathtaking precision flying, drawing aviation enthusiasts and families from all across Florida.

Based out of Naval Air Station Pensacola, the elite flight team has been thrilling audiences since 1946. Their arrival in Vero Beach marks the second stop on their Florida performance tour for the year.

The mission of the United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron is to showcase the teamwork and professionalism of the United States Navy and Marine Corps by inspiring a culture of excellence and service to country through flight demonstrations and community outreach.

What to Expect in the Skies Over Vero Beach

The Blue Angels will be flying their iconic blue and gold Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornets, colors chosen to proudly represent the official hues of the U.S. Navy. The team will perform their primary flight demonstrations on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17.

Locals and visitors attending the air show can expect a stunning display of aerial acrobatics. During their famous Diamond 360 maneuver, the jets will fly an astonishing 18 inches apart. The highest speeds of the performance will occur during the Sneak Pass, where the jets will reach approximately 700 mph, cruising just under Mach 1. During this pass, the aircraft can drop as low as 50 feet above the ground, weather permitting. While the thunderous roar of the engines will be undeniably loud, spectators should not expect to hear a sonic boom, as the aircraft are not authorized to exceed the speed of sound during the show.
