Breeze Airways Announces New Nonstop Route from Vero Beach Following Spirit Airlines Closure
Good news for Treasure Coast travelers looking to head north this fall. Following the sudden shutdown of Spirit Airlines earlier this spring, Breeze Airways is actively stepping up to expand its Florida network, and Vero Beach is directly benefiting from the airline’s latest growth strategy.
Local residents and visitors utilizing the Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB) will soon have a highly requested destination added to their travel map. Starting this October, the Utah-based carrier will launch a brand-new, nonstop flight connecting Vero Beach directly to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Here are the specific details for the upcoming Vero Beach route:
- Departure and Arrival: Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB) to Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT)
- Flight Frequency: Nonstop service operating three days a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays
- Launch Date: Scheduled to begin on October 1
- Starting Fare: Basic one-way tickets starting as low as $89
This new addition to the Vero Beach flight roster is part of a much larger, multi-city expansion by Breeze Airways. The strategic move comes in the wake of Spirit Airlines unceremoniously ceasing its 34-year operations on May 2. Spirit’s closure left thousands unemployed in Florida and created a massive void in affordable regional travel. Now, Breeze, alongside other carriers like JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines, is quickly moving in to provide new options for stranded passengers and underserved regional airports.
“In 2021, Breeze took flight with a handful of routes and big plans to deliver affordable, elevated service between underserved cities… we’re continuing to grow where the demand is – and we’re just getting started,” stated David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Breeze Airways.
Beyond the Treasure Coast, Breeze is also launching new routes from nearby Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) to Atlantic City, as well as initiating flights from Orlando, Fort Myers, and Tampa. The airline’s broader rollout even includes new international destinations such as Cancun, Mexico, and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Treasure Coast travelers looking to secure early fall and winter bookings for the new Vero Beach to Pittsburgh route can purchase tickets now directly through the official Breeze Airways website.
