Breeze Airways is significantly expanding its footprint on the Treasure Coast, affirming its commitment to local travelers by introducing four new flight routes out of the Vero Beach Regional Airport. Despite initial industry skepticism regarding competition from established carriers like JetBlue and American Airlines, the upstart airline is surging forward with enhanced connectivity to major Northeastern hubs.
According to Breeze Airways founder and CEO David Neeleman, the airline is doubling down on its Vero Beach operations, specifically targeting regional airports that provide seamless and stress-free access to major metropolitan areas.
The highly anticipated expansion includes direct flights connecting Vero Beach to Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and two key New Jersey locations: Trenton-Mercer Regional Airport and Atlantic City. The New Jersey hubs were strategically selected to offer convenient travel options into the New York City suburbs, bypassing the heavy congestion of major international airports that many travelers prefer to avoid.
Travelers operating out of Indian River County can now take advantage of the following new flight schedules:
- Trenton, New Jersey: Operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with a planned schedule shift to Thursdays and Sundays in 2027.
- Baltimore, Maryland: Operating three times a week on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, providing excellent access to the region alongside connecting options to Dulles International and Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
- Atlantic City, New Jersey: Operating twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.
- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: Operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays.
This robust local expansion is juxtaposed with the recent departure of JetBlue’s short-lived Vero Beach to New York City route. JetBlue currently maintains only its Boston connection locally. With JetBlue scaling back its NYC service, Breeze Airways now serves as the primary conduit for Vero Beach residents traveling to the Northeast tristate megalopolis. During the peak winter season, once flights to Stewart Field-Newburgh resume, Breeze will offer an impressive total of twelve destinations directly from Vero Beach.
In addition to the Northeast routes—which already include Islip on Long Island, White Plains in Westchester County, and Hartford and New Haven in Connecticut—Breeze operates flights to its own major hub in Raleigh, North Carolina. This Raleigh hub offers Vero Beach residents expansive connectivity to destinations across the United States, including the West Coast.
Passengers departing from Vero Beach will also experience an upgraded journey. Breeze Airways has modernized its local fleet, transitioning from smaller Brazilian-made Embraer jets to the significantly more spacious European-made Airbus 200.
While Breeze is marketed as a low-cost carrier with promotional fares famously starting as low as $41, standard dynamic pricing based on demand remains in effect. Initial Atlantic City tickets were advertised starting at $104, with higher-demand flights to other new destinations ranging between $300 and $400. Passengers can customize their flying experience by choosing between three distinct seating tiers: nice (standard economy), nicer (premium economy), and nicest (comparable to first-class or business-class on legacy carriers).
The surge in commercial air travel has prompted proactive enhancements at the Vero Beach Regional Airport. Under the leadership of new Airport Director Brandon Dambeck, who took over in July following the retirement of Todd Scher, the facility recently completed modest upgrades to its waiting areas, public restrooms, and baggage claim facilities. Dambeck emphasized that the airport administration is closely monitoring flight activity and passenger volumes to ensure the terminal maintains optimal life-safety capacity while adequately supporting the community’s growing connectivity needs.
Early local reception has been highly positive, with airport representatives noting that the inaugural flights successfully transported residents to various out-of-state events, including weddings and football games. As Vero Beach continues to grow as a coveted Florida travel destination and residential haven, this expanded direct air service ensures that the Treasure Coast remains exceptionally well-connected to the rest of the country.
