The Indian River County community is preparing for one of its most spirited and impactful annual traditions as the St. Baldrick’s Foundation brings its signature “Brave the Shave” event back to the Sebastian waterfront. Scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2026, this solidarity event promises an afternoon of laughter, emotion, and community support at Capt. Hiram’s Resort.

The festivities will take place on the sandbar from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. As in previous years, the resort will be transformed into a lively block party atmosphere featuring live music, local vendors, and cold drinks under the palms. The main attraction, however, remains the buzz of the clippers as residents from all walks of life—including firefighters, police officers, teachers, and business owners—step up to shave their heads to raise money for childhood cancer research.

A Legacy of Local Support

The event marks a significant milestone for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The local impact of this event has been profound over the last decade.

In Indian River County alone, the last 13 Brave the Shave events have raised a combined $1.3 million and seen more than 500 heads shaved in solidarity with children fighting cancer.

Proceeds from the event fund critical research grants through St. Baldrick’s, which stands as the largest private supporter of childhood cancer studies globally.

Honoring Local Survivors

This year’s event highlights the personal stories behind the fundraising. Among the “Honored Kids” for the 2026 event is Vincent Saputo, a 21-year-old resident of Vero Beach. Saputo is celebrated as a survivor who beat rhabdomyosarcoma and is now cancer-free. The event also honors Mollie K., a 21-year-old acute lymphoblastic leukemia survivor from Oakland, California.

How to Participate

Organizers are encouraging the community to get involved, whether they are ready to brave the shave or simply want to support the cause. Participants can sign up to go bald, get a trim, or volunteer to fundraise.

Those interested in participating should register online at the official event page: stbaldricks.org/events/indianriver2026. Registered “shavees” will receive a personal fundraising page to share with friends and family. For those unable to attend in person, direct donations can also be made through the website.
