For residents across the Treasure Coast following local governance and political shifts, a significant transition is set to take place in our neighboring city of Fort Pierce. Following a highly competitive special election cycle, the Fort Pierce City Commission is preparing to welcome its newest member, Chris Dzadovsky, who secured the District 2 seat by an incredibly narrow margin.
A Ceremony for the Community
The City of Fort Pierce has officially announced that the swearing-in ceremony for Commissioner-elect Dzadovsky will take place on Monday, February 2, at 4:30 p.m. The event will be held inside the City Commission Chambers at City Hall, located at 100 North U.S. Highway 1.
City officials have framed the upcoming ceremony as an important milestone for local leadership and civic engagement, inviting community members to attend and witness the start of this new tenure.
A Razor-Thin Victory
The path to this seat was anything but straightforward. The special runoff election, held on January 13, 2026, concluded with a photo-finish result. Dzadovsky defeated his opponent, Jaimebeth Galinis, by a mere 31 votes.
According to the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections, Dzadovsky earned 50.60% of the total ballots cast, securing the victory in a race that required a runoff after no candidate reached the 50% threshold during the initial round of voting.
Background and Political Impact
This special election was triggered to fill the vacancy left by former Commissioner James Taylor, who resigned in 2025 following legal issues. The race extended into the new year, drawing attention from voters across the region due to the shifting political dynamics of the area.
Dzadovsky is a familiar face in Treasure Coast politics, having previously served as a St. Lucie County Commissioner for 16 years. His return to public office brings significant experience to the municipal level. Furthermore, this victory marks a notable shift in the composition of the board. According to the Florida Democratic Party, Dzadovsky’s win gives Democrats full control of the Fort Pierce City Commission.
As the Treasure Coast continues to grow and evolve, the leadership in our key municipalities plays a vital role in shaping the future of our region. The swearing-in on February 2 will officially close the chapter on this election season and begin a new period of governance for District 2.
