In a significant development for the local healthcare landscape, Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital has officially announced the acquisition of the Orthopaedic Center of Vero Beach. This strategic move is set to expand access to high-quality bone, joint, and spine care for residents across Indian River County and the wider Treasure Coast.

The acquisition brings together the hospital’s nationally recognized orthopaedic program with a local practice that has served the community for years. According to hospital officials, this partnership is designed to streamline patient care, offering a more cohesive network for treatments ranging from sports medicine and joint replacements to advanced spine care and rehabilitation.

For current patients of the Orthopaedic Center of Vero Beach, the transition aims to be seamless. Physicians and staff will continue to operate out of their existing Vero Beach office. However, the practice will now be fully integrated into the Cleveland Clinic network. This integration provides significant benefits, including shared electronic health records, streamlined referrals, and direct connections to specialists across Cleveland Clinic’s five hospitals in Florida.

“This partnership strengthens the exceptional orthopaedic and spine care already available in our community. By bringing our teams together, we are boosting collaboration across clinic, operating room, and rehabilitation, expanding services, and making sure patients continue to receive the highest quality care close to home.”

— Dr. Richard Rothman, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital.

Enhanced Services and Advanced Technology

Residents of Vero Beach can expect an expanded roster of medical services resulting from this union. The combined capabilities will cover a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal health, including:

  • Total joint replacements (hip and knee)
  • Sports medicine
  • Advanced spine treatments
  • Minimally invasive surgical options
  • Non-surgical orthopedic care
  • Comprehensive physical therapy and rehabilitation
  • Beyond expanding the list of services, the hospital is heavily investing in medical technology. Dr. Rothman highlighted the integration of cutting-edge robotic technology in operating rooms to enhance precision during hip and knee surgeries. Furthermore, the hospital is utilizing augmented reality navigation systems for advanced shoulder procedures. These innovations ensure that the Indian River County medical staff has access to the most up-to-date surgical tools available.

    A Legacy of Local Care

The Orthopaedic Center of Vero Beach has long been a staple in the local medical community. Dr. Richard Steinfeld, MD, MBA, noted that the practice has cared for generations of Treasure Coast families. By joining the Cleveland Clinic system, the center aims to offer more minimally invasive options and better-coordinated rehabilitation plans to help patients return to their normal activities faster.

“Joining Cleveland Clinic allows us to expand our services, offer more minimally invasive options, and coordinate rehabilitation so patients can return to their normal activities quickly and with confidence.”
