The Dyer Difference Award has announced its February recipients, highlighting a month dedicated to the themes of teamwork and trust across the Treasure Coast. The monthly philanthropic initiative, organized by the Dyer family of dealerships, selected three local organizations—two in Indian River County and one in St. Lucie County—to receive financial support and recognition for their impactful work in the community.
Supporting Future Athletes in Fellsmere
In Indian River County, the committee recognized the ambitious efforts of the City of Fellsmere Youth Sports Program. Understanding the link between athletic participation and character development, the City is launching a new sports initiative designed to foster grit, discipline, and emotional regulation among local youth.
The program will begin with soccer and baseball, with plans to expand into basketball, volleyball, and flag football as it matures. To support this massive undertaking, which aims to serve over 200 children, the Dyer Difference Award provided a financial grant to purchase essential gear. This funding ensures that financial barriers do not prevent local youth from getting out on the field.
Empowering Students at Magnolia Learning Academy
Also in Indian River County, the Dyer team turned their attention to Magnolia Learning Academy, a non-profit enrichment center filling a vital gap in the educational landscape. The academy empowers students—both with and without special needs—through individualized, holistic education.
The award funds will specifically assist Magnolia’s students in participating in community outings. These excursions are critical for developing independence, social skills, and life skills, offering students a pathway to engage more fully with their community and build a foundation for a successful future.
Honoring Law Enforcement in St. Lucie County
In neighboring St. Lucie County, the award recognized the Men At Arms Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC). Founded in 2016 to honor the late St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant Gary Morales, the organization has evolved to address a critical, often overlooked issue: the mental and emotional health of law enforcement officers.
In 2023, Men at Arms LEMC recognized the critical importance of focusing on the mental and emotional-health issues specifically facing law-enforcement officers and the stigma surrounding seeking assistance and chose to address this issue as its main goal.
The organization works to destigmatize seeking help and aims to build trusting relationships between law enforcement and the public.
A Legacy of Giving
This month, the Dyer Difference Award distributed an additional $3,000 on top of its typical monthly donation of $6,000 shared between Indian River and St. Lucie Counties. The Dyer family emphasizes that these contributions are made possible through the loyalty of their customers.
Residents who wish to nominate a deserving non-profit organization for a future award are encouraged to visit the Dyer Difference website or connect with the organization on Facebook.
