Fort Pierce residents in District 2 have one final opportunity today, Tuesday, January 13, to cast their ballots in a crucial special runoff election. The race will determine the new city commissioner for the district, a seat that has been the subject of significant local attention following a vacancy that occurred late last year.

This runoff became necessary after the initial election concluded without a definitive winner. Now, voters must choose between two remaining candidates with distinct backgrounds:

  • Chris Dzadovsky: A veteran of local government, Dzadovsky previously served as a St. Lucie County Commissioner for 16 years. He led the field in the first round of voting, securing approximately 40% of the vote.
  • Jaimebeth Galinis: Bringing a corporate perspective to the race, Galinis is a senior director at BD, a Fortune 500 medical device company. she captured roughly 31% of the vote in the initial election.

The special election was triggered to fill the seat vacated by former commissioner James Taylor. Taylor resigned in August 2025 following his arrest in July on serious charges alleging sexual communications with a minor. The district has been operating without full representation since his resignation.

Polls for this special runoff election will close promptly at 7:00 p.m. Residents of District 2 who have not yet voted can find their assigned polling locations by visiting the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections website.
