Tuesday Evening Crossfire at Sable Chase
One of the most frightening encounters occurred on a Tuesday evening when an unsuspecting driver found themselves caught in a dangerous exchange of gunfire. According to the Fort Pierce Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Sable Chase apartment complex near Brooks Street at approximately 6:47 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Investigators confirmed that multiple individuals were involved in the shootout, putting innocent bystanders in immediate danger.
Holiday Weekend Violence Leaves Three Injured
Prior to the Tuesday evening incident, the holiday weekend itself saw back-to-back acts of gun violence in Fort Pierce that left two men hospitalized and a woman injured. Law enforcement detailed two distinct events:
- Saturday Morning Bicycle Shooting: At 4:55 a.m., authorities responded to the area of Avenue I following reports of gunfire. Investigators determined that a man was riding a bicycle alongside a woman near North 27th Street and Avenue G when shots suddenly rang out. The wounded victim attempted to flee the scene on foot, eventually collapsing near a commercial business on Avenue I. Responding officers followed a visible blood trail from the initial scene to the victim’s location. Police rendered immediate aid until the St. Lucie County Fire District arrived and transported the man to a local hospital for emergency care.
- Sunday, July 5th Targeted Attack: The following morning at 3:43 a.m., officers responded to another shooting near South 14th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered two victims: a woman who had sustained a gunshot wound to the hand and a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police reports indicate that this violence stemmed from an earlier altercation on Okeechobee Road. As the victims arrived home, a male suspect believed to be involved in the prior dispute approached them, opened fire, and quickly fled the scene. The male victim was promptly transported to the hospital for advanced medical treatment.
Both investigations into the holiday weekend shootings remain highly active, and local authorities have not yet announced any arrests.
