Vero Beach’s renowned Riverside Theatre is continuing its 2026 season with a production that promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Mauritius, a razor-sharp and suspenseful drama by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Theresa Rebeck, is set to open on the Waxlax Stage next month. This psychological thriller plunges viewers into the high-stakes, shadowy world of rare stamp collecting, proving that a simple postage stamp can be the catalyst for dangerous obsession.

The production is part of the Bobbie Olsen Series and will run from February 3 through February 22, 2026.

The narrative centers on Jackie, a young woman grappling with the death of her mother and a mountain of debt left behind after a lifetime of poor choices and expensive medical bills. Her only potential financial lifeline is a mysterious stamp collection she knows little about. Seeking to understand its value, she approaches Philip, a brusque and arrogant stamp dealer who initially dismisses her. However, the introduction of Dennis, a charming former collector and small-time grifter, changes the dynamic, offering Jackie a chance to uncover the true worth of her inheritance.

Part psychological thriller, part high-stakes mystery, Mauritius plunges audiences into the shadowy, competitive world of rare stamp collecting—where a single discovery can be worth a fortune, and trust is the most dangerous currency of all.

As the plot unfolds, alliances shift rapidly. The characters are forced to determine if the stamps are genuine rarities or elaborate forgeries, and more importantly, who among them is telling the truth. What begins as a business transaction quickly escalates into a battle of wits involving money, pride, and desperation. The play is noted for its crackling dialogue and tension that builds relentlessly toward a stunning conclusion.

Riverside Theatre has assembled a talented team for this production. Under the direction of Steve Umberger, the cast features:

  • Dayna Palya as Jackie
  • Rod Brogan as Dennis
  • Liam Craig as Philip
  • Katharine McLeod as Mary
  • Wynn Harmon as Sterling

The creative team bringing this intense world to life includes Scenic Designer Emily Luongo, Costume Designer Anna Hillbery, Lighting Designer Genny Wynn, and Sound Designer Anthony Narciso. The production is stage managed by Audrey M. Brown with assistance from Sarah Nicholson. Casting was conducted in New York City by The Wojcik Casting Team.

For Vero Beach residents looking for a gripping night of theater that explores the seductive pull of value—both financial and personal—Mauritius offers a compelling addition to the local arts calendar. Sponsored by Bobbie Olsen and Riverside Theatre’s Patron Producers, tickets are expected to be in high demand for this limited engagement.
