Boaters in Indian River County should prepare for a temporary change in their launch plans this coming February. County officials have announced that the popular boat ramp at Round Island Riverside Park in Vero Beach will close to undergo essential maintenance and repairs.
The closure is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, February 3, with the project expected to last approximately three to four weeks.
The scope of the work includes critical repairs to the dock and nearby walkways. These updates are designed to maintain safe and reliable access to the Indian River Lagoon for the many locals and tourists who utilize the facility.
“These improvements are necessary to ensure the continued safety of residents and visitors,” stated Steve Barako, the Parks Superintendent for Indian River County.
Barako noted that repairing and replacing components of the dock is a key part of maintaining the high standards of the county’s park facilities.
Park Remains Open to Visitors
While the boat ramp will be inaccessible, the remainder of Round Island Riverside Park will stay open. Visitors can still access the park’s walking trails and nature viewing areas. Additionally, the adjacent Round Island Oceanside Park, located directly across Highway A1A, is unaffected by the construction and remains fully open for beach access.
Alternative Launch Sites
During the renovation period, boaters are encouraged to utilize other nearby launch sites to access the lagoon. County officials have suggested the following alternatives in Vero Beach:
- Oslo Boat Ramp: Located at 9th Street SE.
- Wabasso Causeway Boat Ramp: Located at 3105 Wabasso Bridge Road.
Residents should plan their water activities accordingly to avoid delays while these safety improvements are completed.
