The Sebastian Police Department is taking proactive steps to empower local women and teenage girls by offering a complimentary self-defense training program next month. This initiative, utilizing the R.A.D. Systems (Rape Aggression Defense) curriculum, is designed to provide participants within Indian River County the knowledge and physical skills necessary to recognize, avoid, and resist potential threats.
The four-day intensive workshop is scheduled to take place from February 17 through February 20, 2026. Classes will be held in the evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Sebastian Public Works facility, located at 505 Airport Drive West.
The program provides educational opportunities for women to create a safer future through risk awareness and hands-on techniques.
Participants can expect a comprehensive approach to personal safety that moves beyond simple classroom instruction. The course blends educational lectures with active physical defense training and realistic simulation exercises. These simulations are specifically designed to help women build the confidence required to utilize practical response strategies during dangerous situations.
The program is open to all females ages 13 and older. To ensure safety and proper consent, any participant under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the course.
Because this is a hands-on training environment, space is limited. Residents interested in attending are encouraged to register as soon as possible. To secure a spot, please contact Officer Hart directly:
This free offering highlights the department’s commitment to community safety, ensuring that women in the Sebastian and greater Indian River County area have access to proven methods for self-protection and preparedness.
