Local outreach ministry, I am Ministries DBA The Source, has officially launched a vital new transportation service for the Vero Beach community. Expanding upon their longstanding mission to empower and uplift local residents, Executive Director Anthony “Tony” Zorbaugh recently secured a retired GoLine bus from the Senior Resource Association via auction, giving the locally recognized vehicle a renewed and profound purpose.
Now christened Dignity in Motion, the repurposed vehicle offers an essential lifeline for members of The Source who have successfully transitioned into stable employment and housing. The initiative directly targets one of the most significant hurdles for the local workforce on the Treasure Coast: affordable and reliable transit.
Our motive is simple. We are known for restoring what was and putting them back to good use again. We have now succeeded in doing that with operating what will soon be our Dignity Bus into its 9th location. In fact, you might say that’s what we are doing for each of our members who come to us for help in getting their lives back on track and on their feet so they can live a life of dignity.
The logistics of Dignity in Motion are carefully tailored to meet the day-to-day needs of the community. Operating seven days a week, the program provides reliable door-to-door transportation for neighbors and program graduates. Passengers can utilize the service to handle critical daily tasks, including commuting to work, attending medical appointments, grocery shopping, and visiting local banks.
The air-conditioned vehicle is fully equipped to serve the diverse physical needs of Indian River County residents. Notable features of the new transportation service include:
- Comfortable seating capacity for up to 18 passengers.
- Fully handicapped-accessible entry and seating accommodations.
- An integrated bicycle rack for members who wish to commute with their own bikes.
Overseen by Employment Specialist Joanna Perez, the program ensures seamless operations by coordinating ride requests, dispatching drivers, and planning daily routes. Registered members of The Source, including Bob Atherton, Anthony Romayo, and Shawn Tillman, are currently taking the wheel to drive the bus and meticulously track passenger locations. Access to the service requires advanced reservations and involves a small program fee to help sustain operations.
According to Jade Alexander, the Neighbors Services Director at The Source, providing consistent transit is a fundamental component of achieving long-term stability for individuals recovering from homelessness.
Reliable transportation is an important part of stability, responsibility, and the journey towards independence. Dignity in Motion helps remove transportation barriers so members can stay focused on their goals, their health, and their future.
Operating in the heart of Vero Beach since 1995, The Source remains deeply committed to empowering the homeless and at-risk populations across the region. Through a vast array of core services—including restaurant-style hot meals, counseling, clothing provisions, shower facilities, and now Dignity in Motion—the social outreach ministry continues to instill a profound sense of community, transforming local lives through dedicated service.
