Aspiring entrepreneurs and community members in Vero Beach are invited to a morning of inspiration and business education next month as the local chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) presents a special literary event. The organization is set to host a free “Book Review Breakfast” focusing on the journey of women in business and the resilience required to start new ventures later in life.

The event is scheduled for March 2 at 9:30 a.m. and will be held at the Richardson Center located on the Indian River State College (IRSC) Vero Beach campus.

Local radio personality Ellen Contreras, founder and host of iHeartRadio’s Treasure Coast Connector, will facilitate the session. She will present a review of the book The Little Girls’ Guide to Entrepreneurship: What I Now Know but Wish I Knew Then. In a special addition to the program, the book’s author, Emily McHugh, will attend the breakfast to offer firsthand insights and engage directly with the audience.

The discussion aims to empower women by covering essential topics such as trusting one’s instincts, utilizing life experience as a professional strength, and overcoming the fear of launching new ideas even when the timing seems imperfect.

Contreras brings significant expertise to the conversation, well-known for her work interviewing and connecting small-business owners across the Treasure Coast. The event highlights the core message that age should not be a barrier to entrepreneurship, targeting women interested in startups, side projects, or career shifts.

While admission is free to the public, the AAUW Vero Beach encourages attendees to support local literacy efforts. The group is collecting donations of new or gently used books during the event to stock four “Little Free Libraries” managed by the branch. The AAUW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to promoting equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. Residents interested in attending or learning more can contact the local AAUW chapter directly.
