The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a tragic incident in Vero Beach following the fatal shooting of a local woman.
On Sunday morning, deputies responded to the 500 block of 1st Street in Vero Beach, where they discovered 52-year-old Dawn Kriskewic with an apparent gunshot wound in the roadway. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by first responders on the scene, Kriskewic was later pronounced dead after being transported to a regional trauma center. Authorities noted that the release of her identity was delayed to ensure all out-of-state next of kin could be properly notified.
Detectives are currently treating the case as a domestic violence homicide. Law enforcement has identified 33-year-old Matthew Allen Waggle of Sebastian as a primary person of interest. Investigators believe the victim and Waggle were involved in an on-and-off relationship.
Authorities have issued a nationwide BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert for Waggle, who is believed to have fled the Treasure Coast area. Law enforcement stresses that the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
If you encounter this person, don’t approach him. It’s possible that he could harm other people or himself.
Close friends and local residents are mourning the loss of Kriskewic, remembering her as a beautifully spirited mother, a talented hairdresser, and an author who was deeply loved by her community.
The investigation remains open and ongoing. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to come forward with any relevant information regarding Waggle’s whereabouts or the events leading up to Sunday morning. Anyone with details is asked to take the following actions:
- Contact Detective M. Kachele directly at 772-978-6240.
