According to a recent data-driven study published by Stacker, Vero Beach has been named one of the top destinations in the country, securing the impressive position of the fourth-best East Coast beach town to live in year-round.
The comprehensive study evaluated coastal municipalities using data collected from a WalletHub report. Analysts compared cities across 62 key indicators of livability, organized into six primary categories:
- Affordability
- Weather
- Safety
- Economy
- Education and Health
- Quality of Life
To qualify for the list, each town was required to have at least one local beach recognized for its appeal. The final results heavily favored the Sunshine State, with Florida claiming 16 of the top 25 spots. However, Vero Beach stood out near the very top of the pack, earning exceptional praise for its unique blend of elegance and relaxation.

The national spotlight highlighted several of our community’s most beloved outdoor spaces. For those looking to sink their toes into the sand, the publication pointed to the pristine shores of Golden Sands Park, Wabasso Beach Park, and Treasure Shores Beach Park. Beyond the oceanfront, the study celebrated the lush, tropical hammocks and tranquil water lilies found at the McKee Botanical Garden, noting the atmosphere of rest and relaxation it provides to residents.
Vero Beach’s rich environmental heritage was also a major factor in its high ranking. The Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge earned a special mention as the nation’s very first National Wildlife Refuge. Spanning 5,400 acres, this vital sanctuary of salt marshes and mangroves provides a perfect habitat for migratory white pelicans and nesting brown pelicans, underscoring the area’s ongoing commitment to nature conservation.
Our broader Treasure Coast region was also well-represented in the rankings. Just to the south, Stuart, Florida, secured the number 12 spot on the list. Recognized as the Sailfish Capital of the World, Stuart was praised for its pedestrian-friendly historic downtown, weekend farmers’ markets, and beautiful waterfront boardwalk along the St. Lucie River where dolphins are often seen playing in the surf.
