A Milestone Year for Local Tennis

The Vero Beach International Tennis Open (VBITO) has officially wrapped up its milestone fifth-anniversary season, setting new records that highlight its growing prestige on Florida’s Treasure Coast. Held at the pristine Grand Harbor Golf & Beach Club, the USTA Pro Circuit tournament not only showcased world-class athleticism but also delivered a substantial economic boost to the local community.

The week-long celebration of world-class tennis and community spirit concluded with a record-setting attendance of over 4,400 fans, a global broadcast audience exceeding 4.2 million viewers, and an estimated $175,000 in additional revenue for the City of Vero Beach.

Honoring a Tennis Legend on the Treasure Coast

A defining moment of the 2026 tournament was the historic dedication of Center Court to eight-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1, Ivan Lendl. Tournament organizers emphasized that every match played on the newly christened Ivan Lendl Court now carries the profound inspiration of one of the sport’s greatest competitors. This dedication perfectly bridges the rich history of professional tennis with the bright future of emerging talent right here in Vero Beach.

Championships and Unwavering Local Sponsorship

On the courts, former World No. 4 Bianca Andreescu captured the singles championship, adding her prestigious name to the growing roster of elite athletes competing in Indian River County. In the doubles division, sisters Allura and Maribella Zamarripa claimed the title after a thrilling final match that electrified the local crowd. The champions were presented with their trophies on Center Court by Ben Bryk and Vance Brinkerhoff of Vero Premier Properties, a Signature Division of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury. As the presenting sponsor, their steadfast support has been a cornerstone in elevating the VBITO to its current international stature.

Beyond the Baseline: Community Engagement

The 2026 VBITO featured an unforgettable lineup of community-driven events that brought residents together both on and off the court. Highlights from the week included:

  • A formal Opening Ceremony featuring welcoming remarks from Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers and Vero Beach Mayor John Cotugno.
  • A moving rendition of the National Anthem performed by Grand Harbor member Lou Wilkin, accompanied by a Changing of the Color Guard.
  • A curated Fashion Show Dinner organized by Grand Harbor members Linda Kofoed and Penny Cutler.
  • An Art Show and Wine Social displaying original works from over 25 member artists.
  • Two days of high-horsepower automotive exhibitions presented by Melbourne Porsche Audi.
  • A highly anticipated Pro-Am event and a free Kids’ Day offering local children lessons, gifts, and a chance to rally with professional athletes.

Deep Community Roots and Future Outlook

The sheer scale of this internationally recognized event was made possible by the dedication of more than 250 local volunteers who managed everything from courtside hospitality to player support. Bolstered by premier sponsors like Melbourne Porsche Audi, Mercedes-Benz, GHO Homes, and Morgan Stanley, the tournament’s operational success was spearheaded by local leaders including Grand Harbor General Manager Michael Gibson, Director of Sports Marco Osorio, Sports Committee Chair Jeanine Nestor, and Club President Tim Cutler.

Moving from a bold local initiative to a globally broadcast sporting event, the Vero Beach International Tennis Open continues to act as a vital economic and cultural catalyst for the region. With plans already in motion for an expanded sixth season in 2027, the future of professional tennis in Vero Beach has never looked brighter.
