Travelers departing from Vero Beach Regional Airport can look forward to a more comfortable and streamlined experience in the very near future. A comprehensive terminal makeover, valued at roughly $1.9 million, is expected to be completed this spring, bringing a host of new amenities designed to modernize the facility while preserving its beloved local charm.
According to Airport Director Todd Scher, the renovation project focuses on enhancing passenger comfort from arrival to boarding. The improvements address several key areas of the terminal infrastructure, ensuring that the growing number of flyers utilizing the local hub are well-accommodated.
Key upgrades arriving at the terminal include:
While initial projections aimed for an October completion, the timeline was adjusted to accommodate input from the airport’s airline partners. Officials collaborated closely with Breeze Airways and JetBlue to incorporate their feedback into the final design, ensuring the terminal meets the specific needs of their passengers.
This renovation comes at a crucial time for the regional hub, which is experiencing a significant increase in daily activity. Breeze Airways has been serving the area since 2023, followed by the addition of JetBlue flights to Boston and New York in December. Most recently, American Airlines launched daily service to Charlotte, North Carolina, further solidifying Vero Beach as a viable travel gateway.
Despite the modernization, local officials are keen on retaining the airport’s unique character.
“This is a project designed to maintain the small-town feel that we all value so much, but also make the travel experience for the public here in Vero Beach just that much more comfortable and that much more tenable,” said Airport Director Todd Scher.
In addition to structural improvements, hungry travelers may soon see a major upgrade to the waiting area. Negotiations are currently nearing completion with a food vendor to operate beyond the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint. Currently, passengers only have access to vending machines after clearing security. If successful, the new vendor could be operational by the time the terminal improvements are finalized, offering sandwiches and drinks to waiting flyers.
Funding for the terminal improvements has been supported by allocations from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation, ensuring that Vero Beach Regional Airport continues to serve the Treasure Coast effectively as flight options expand.
