In a major push to find loving homes for local animals, the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County has announced a special partnership with the BISSELL Pet Foundation. Through the highly anticipated Empty the Shelters campaign, prospective pet owners in the Treasure Coast area will have the opportunity to adopt a new furry family member with drastically reduced or completely waived adoption fees.

This critical two-week adoption drive, running from May 1 through May 17, arrives at a vital time for the local animal rescue community. Officials report that the Vero Beach-based shelter is currently operating at absolute full capacity, making the need for community support more urgent than ever before. By slashing adoption fees, the shelter hopes to quickly transition dozens of cats and dogs out of the kennels and into safe, permanent local homes.

We at HSVB are excited to participate in Empty the Shelters. With our shelter being at full capacity, we are grateful to the BISSELL Pet Foundation for this opportunity and funding. We have so many adorable dogs and cats eager to find their fur-ever homes.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters initiative stands as the largest funded adoption event in the United States. Since its nationwide launch in 2016, the program has successfully placed more than 300,000 animals into permanent homes. By collaborating with approximately 800 animal welfare organizations across 48 states and Canada, the foundation subsidizes adoption costs to actively encourage families to adopt rather than purchase their pets from breeders.

For Vero Beach and Indian River County residents looking to add a dog or cat to their household, this event presents the perfect opportunity to make a life-changing difference for a local animal in need while saving on upfront adoption costs.
