Vero Beach’s Live in the Loop: New Elegant Vibe

For residents and visitors of Vero Beach, **Riverside Theatre** has long been the crown jewel of local arts and entertainment. Beyond its Broadway-caliber main stage productions, the theatre’s outdoor concert series, “Live in the Loop,” has served as a beloved community gathering spot since 2012. However, a recent shift in format is sparking conversation across the Treasure Coast, as the venue transitions from high-energy dance parties to a more sophisticated, nightclub-style atmosphere.

For years, the Loop was synonymous with full bands, classic rock, and a packed dance floor on weekends. Recently, management has pivoted the programming. The large bands that once dominated Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights have been largely replaced by solo artists, duos, and trios. according to theatre representatives, the goal is to curate an elegant experience that starts the moment patrons arrive.

“We’re creating more of a nightclub atmosphere. Although these groups may not be traditional dance bands, what we offer is an experience – a wonderful one – and that experience begins the moment patrons park across the street and hear the music.” — Oscar Sales, Marketing Director at Riverside Theatre.

The reaction among long-time locals has been mixed. For many, the Loop was the go-to destination for “exercise” via dancing and enjoying live rock ‘n’ roll. Some regulars have expressed disappointment, noting that the new “vibe” feels less like the community outing they grew to love. However, others see it as a natural evolution for the venue. Even the self-proclaimed “Official Loopers,” a couple who have frequented the dance floor since 2018, acknowledged that while the change isn’t their personal preference, they respect the theatre’s vision for an elevated dining and listening environment.

New Amenities and Dining Experiences

Alongside the musical shift, Riverside Theatre is investing heavily in the culinary and comfort aspects of the Loop. Under the guidance of new Executive Chef **Sue Torres**, the menu has been upgraded to reflect the more upscale tone. Additionally, the venue now offers private **cabana rentals**, allowing groups of up to eight people to enjoy the evening in a reserved, comfortable tent setting for $80.

Pre-Show Themed Dining

In a separate initiative to enhance the evening for theatre-goers, Riverside has introduced exclusive pre-show dining experiences. These events are distinct from the free Loop concerts and feature curated menus inspired by the current stage production.

For example, upcoming dining events include themes tied to the suspenseful drama Mauritius. These all-inclusive dinners are priced at approximately $159.43 per person (excluding show tickets) and provide a seamless “dinner and a show” evening without leaving the campus.

Looking Ahead

While the format has changed, “Live in the Loop” remains a staple of Vero Beach nightlife. The music continues to run Thursday through Saturday, generally starting at 5:30 p.m. Large bands are still scheduled, though less frequently—typically appearing once or twice a month.

For those locals who still have an itch for high-energy dancing and full rock bands, the community continues to offer vibrant alternatives, including:

  • Downtown Friday: The popular monthly street party in historic downtown.
  • Sunset Saturday Concerts: Oceanside music events on the beach.
  • Riverside Café: A nearby favorite for casual dining and live bands.
  • Riverside Theatre continues to be a dynamic force in Indian River County, adapting its offerings to provide diverse experiences for its patrons. Whether you are looking for a relaxed evening of acoustic music and fine food or a dramatic night at the theatre, the campus remains a must-visit destination.
