FORT PIERCE — A disturbing discovery behind a truck stop in St. Lucie County has led to first-degree murder charges against a Pompano Beach man. What began as a call regarding a suspicious vehicle late Thursday night escalated after deputies discovered blood evidence on a semi-truck.
The incident occurred near South Rock Road, located behind a Pilot Truck Stop in Fort Pierce. According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO), a witness dialed 911 to report a suspicious person in the area. When deputies arrived at the scene, they located a semi-truck that had veered off the road and into a ditch.
Near the vehicle, deputies found 41-year-old Olson Jean. While the initial response was for a suspicious person, the situation quickly turned into a major crime scene investigation. Deputies observed blood inside the cab of the truck, as well as on the exterior of the passenger side.
Jean was initially taken into custody and charged with Resisting an Officer Without Violence. However, following further investigation by detectives, charges were significantly upgraded on Saturday. Jean now faces counts of:
The charges are in connection with the death of 32-year-old Wendy Moncion of Coconut Creek. As of Sunday, authorities have not confirmed if the victim’s body has been recovered.
St. Lucie County Sheriff Richard Del Toro Jr. issued a strong statement regarding the arrest:
This was a violent and senseless crime, and I want to commend the outstanding work of our Patrol Operations Bureau and Criminal Investigations Division for their relentless efforts in bringing this case forward. Their dedication and professionalism ensured that the individual responsible is being held accountable. Let this serve as a clear message, violent crime will not be tolerated in St. Lucie County, and we will pursue justice for victims and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time.
Local residents expressed concern over the incident occurring in what is usually a quiet area. Lauren Carter, a resident living near the scene, told CBS12 News that South Rock Road is primarily residential and that seeing a truck travel down that specific road was highly unusual.
Jean is currently being held at the St. Lucie County Jail without bond. A press conference is scheduled for Tuesday in Fort Pierce, where Sheriff Del Toro is expected to release further details regarding the investigation.
The investigation remains active. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information regarding this case to contact their Criminal Investigation Division at (772) 462-7300.
