The Treasure Coast community is mourning the loss of a young life this week following a tragic motorcycle accident in **St. Lucie County**. Michael Jacquin Jr., a 20-year-old Fort Pierce native and a budding member of a prominent local construction family, passed away on **February 3** following a collision on U.S. 1.
According to the **Fort Pierce Police**, the accident occurred in the afternoon north of downtown Fort Pierce. Jacquin Jr. was operating a Kawasaki motorcycle traveling southbound on U.S. 1. At the intersection with **Avenue M**, a 76-year-old woman driving a Ford Taurus northbound attempted to make a left turn, resulting in the collision.
Just prior to the tragic event, Jacquin Jr. had been working in **Vero Beach**. His father, Michael Jacquin, confirmed that his son had been working at a job site off **Oslo Road** earlier that day. He reportedly left the Vero Beach site shortly before 3:00 p.m. and was en route to a motorcycle shop to pick up parts when the crash occurred.
A Legacy in Construction
Jacquin Jr. was a fourth-generation member of the family behind Jacquin & Sons Construction, a business established by his great-grandfather in 1940. Although his father described him as a “late bloomer” who initially experienced some difficulties during his high school years, Jacquin Jr. had recently found his stride within the family trade.
“Michael has a smile that you didn’t see all the time, but when you saw it, it just lit up the whole room he was in. You didn’t see it often, but when you did, it was big and beautiful,” said Megan Charles, his half-sister.
A graduate of John Carroll High School and a former student at St. Anastasia Catholic School, Jacquin Jr. was remembered by colleagues as a dedicated worker. His father shared that even seasoned employees at the construction firm, who were known to be sparing with compliments, acknowledged that he was “a hardworking kid.”
Outside of his work in the construction industry, family members recalled that he had a love for computers, video games, and fishing, alongside his passion for motorcycles. This loss comes at a particularly difficult time for the Jacquin family, as Michael’s grandfather, Paul Jacquin, recently passed away in January at the age of 79.
