The cultural calendar in Vero Beach continues to impress as the acclaimed Con Brio Quartet prepares to return to the Treasure Coast for a special performance. Known for their dynamic stage presence and technical precision, the South Florida-based ensemble will be performing a concert featuring masterpieces from the Classical and late Romantic periods at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach.

The concert is scheduled for Sunday, February 22, at 4:00 PM. The event will take place in the sanctuary of the church, located at 520 Royal Palm Boulevard.

This upcoming performance marks the eighth time the Con Brio Quartet has graced the stage at First Presbyterian, a testament to their popularity among local audiences. The group—whose name translates to “with panache”—is composed of four international virtuosos: Valentin Mansurov (violin), Aziz Sapaev (cello), David Pedraza (viola), and Marina Lenau (violin). Hailing from Russia, Uzbekistan, Mexico, and Ukraine, these musicians have spent over a decade thrilling audiences across the United States and abroad.

The program promises a rich auditory experience, beginning with Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in G Major, Op. 76, No. 1. Composed around 1797 for Count Erdödy, this work is often cited as one of Haydn’s finest contributions to the genre. As the “Father of the String Quartet,” Haydn’s work in this piece showcases the peak of thematic development and structure iconic to the Classical period.

In a special collaboration for the second half of the program, the quartet will be joined by a familiar face to the Vero Beach community: Dr. Jacob Craig, the Director of Music and Arts at First Presbyterian. Dr. Craig, a celebrated pianist and past recipient of the Indian River Cultural Council’s Laurel Award, will accompany the string musicians for Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major. Written in 1887, this late Romantic masterpiece is beloved for its lush melodies and deep Czech folk influences.

Dr. Craig expressed his enthusiasm regarding the ensemble’s return:

“We have repeatedly programmed Con Brio because of their fantastic musicianship and engaging personalities. For me, it is always exciting to perform with musicians of their caliber. This will be an afternoon of truly beautiful music for all who attend.”

First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach has established itself as a hub for musical and artistic outreach in Central Florida. While admission to the concert is free, donations are accepted. These contributions directly benefit the Music and Arts Department, funding future appearances by high-quality musical groups throughout the year.
