Local sports enthusiasts and supporters of the Vero Beach High School Fighting Indians have a new reason to turn their attention toward Tallahassee. Efrem “EJ” White, a celebrated local athlete known for his versatility on the field, is reportedly turning heads during his first preseason workouts with the Florida State University Seminoles. Following a highly productive high school career in Indian River County, White is distinguishing himself early in his collegiate tenure.

White’s senior season at Vero Beach High School was defined by his ability to adapt and excel under pressure. Originally a wide receiver, he stepped into the quarterback role following an injury to the starter. His performance was statistically dominant, amassing 2,581 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. His athleticism was further displayed on the ground, where he racked up 977 rushing yards and 22 scores. Even with his quarterback duties, he contributed 188 receiving yards and a touchdown.

One of the defining moments of his recent local career was a standout performance against Lake Mary, where he showcased his “triple threat” capability by scoring a receiving touchdown, throwing for a touchdown, and running for a score in a tight 28-27 contest.

Now in Tallahassee, White has shifted his focus back to the wide receiver position. He is currently participating in FSU’s “Tour of Duty,” a grueling strength and conditioning program held throughout February that features early-morning workouts and agility drills. despite being a newcomer, reports indicate that the former Vero Beach star is moving differently than his peers.

“Freshman EJ White was described as a ‘freak’ in terms of how fluidly he moves. He’s thin. We’ll see how he does with the pads on. But he’s distinguishing himself from other newcomers right now.”

According to reports from Noles247, White’s fluidity is helping him stand out even among the blue-chip talent on the roster. To navigate his transition to the college level, White is leaning on the experience of veteran teammates. He specifically noted the mentorship of All-ACC performer Duce Robinson, describing the veteran as a “team leader” who makes the learning curve much easier to manage.

White is part of a promising group of young receivers looking to make an impact during the upcoming 2026 season. As he continues to grind through the preseason alongside top-tier prospects like Jasen Lopez and Devin Carter, Vero Beach residents can take pride in seeing one of their own described as a “freak” athlete ready to compete on a major stage.
