Indian River County has announced public memorial services to honor the lives of two local county employees, Stacie Mason and Danny Ooley, who were tragically killed in a shooting outside the Indian River County Main Library in Vero Beach last week.

Both victims were dedicated public servants for the local government. Danny Ooley, 56, served as the Assistant Director of Indian River County Public Works. Stacie Mason, 49, who was also known as Stacie Ellis, worked as a Traffic Analyst Technician for the Indian River County Traffic Engineering department.

To honor their memories and service to the Treasure Coast community, the county released the following schedule for public remembrances:

  • Danny Ooley’s Service: A public remembrance will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. The service will take place at Pathway Church, located at 1105 58th Ave. in Vero Beach.
  • Stacie Mason’s Service: A memorial will take place on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Attendees will gather at the county park situated just south of the Indian River County Administration Building on 26th Street in Vero Beach.

The fatal incident occurred last Tuesday when the two employees were gunned down near the downtown Vero Beach library facility. According to local law enforcement, the suspect is 64-year-old Jesse Ellis, the husband of Stacie Mason. Authorities report that Jesse Ellis shot and killed both his wife and Ooley before fleeing the area.

An active police investigation and manhunt remain underway. Law enforcement officials are still actively searching for Jesse Ellis and recently released updated photographs of the suspect on Friday to assist the public in identifying him. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact local police immediately.
