A massive manhunt is currently underway across the Treasure Coast, with authorities actively searching the Vero Beach area for a fugitive bookkeeper. Alexandra Delacaridad Gonzalez, 46, is wanted by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from local homeowners’ associations to fund an extravagant lifestyle of plastic surgery, shopping sprees, and luxury vacations.
While employed by Avant-Garde Property Management, Gonzalez allegedly orchestrated a complex financial scheme targeting two specific communities: the Whitemarsh Reserve Homeowners Association and The Dunes of Hutchinson Island. According to investigators, she siphoned the funds by writing unauthorized checks to herself over an extended period. To conceal the missing money, she reportedly fabricated invoices, manipulated ledger entries, and forged the signatures of authorized account holders.
The financial drain on the communities was severe and escalated rapidly. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek detailed the progression of the suspected fraud, noting that the stolen amounts steadily increased before the paper trail was discovered and she was ultimately terminated from her position.
The suspect started with smaller amounts $2,000 but doing it multiple times a week, like five times a week. So, about $10,000 a week was going in her pocket, and then she progressed from the 2,000 increments into the 5,000 increments at which she was fired and issued a warrant for her arrest.
Gonzalez is currently facing a mountain of severe legal charges. An active arrest warrant has been issued outlining the following offenses:
- Two counts of fraud exceeding $50,000
- Two counts of grand theft
- 61 counts of uttering false instruments
- 59 counts of embezzlement
With a staggering bond already set at $1,350,000, law enforcement officials are frantically searching for her. Investigators have explicitly stated that they believe Gonzalez has fled and may be hiding out right here in Vero Beach or the Miramar area. Residents of Indian River County and the broader Treasure Coast are being asked to remain highly vigilant.
The fallout for the victimized homeowners on Hutchinson Island and beyond could be long-lasting. Sheriff Budensiek warned that the affected communities might be forced to raise their HOA fees to recover the massive financial losses. He expressed deep frustration on behalf of the community, noting the severe betrayal of trust involved in stealing from local citizens.
If you live in Vero Beach or the surrounding areas and have any information regarding the whereabouts of Alexandra Delacaridad Gonzalez, or if you suspect your own HOA’s accounting records may have been compromised by a similar scheme, you are urged to contact local law enforcement immediately.
