The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has taken swift action following a series of alarming, though ultimately false, threats directed at local high schools. Antonio Mojica, a 25-year-old man, has been apprehended and faces serious legal consequences for his actions.
According to local authorities, Mojica utilized the FortifyFL app—a suspicious activity reporting tool designed to keep Florida schools safe—to submit the alarming tips. The electronic messages specifically targeted two major educational institutions in Indian River County: Vero Beach High School and Sebastian River High School. The submitted threats also referenced the neighboring city of Palm Bay.
Law enforcement immediately launched an investigation into the submissions. Deputies and investigators worked to assess the credibility of the warnings, quickly determining that the tips were entirely unfounded and posed no actual danger to students, faculty, or the community.
Following the investigation, Mojica was arrested and officially charged with making a written or electronic threat to kill or cause bodily harm.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office used the incident to remind residents of the severe impact these hoaxes have on the community and emergency responders.
False threats divert critical attention and resources away from legitimate public safety matters.
Authorities continue to emphasize that utilizing safety resources like the FortifyFL application to make false claims is a severe crime that will be met with immediate prosecution. Parents and community members in Vero Beach and Sebastian can rest assured that local law enforcement remains vigilant in protecting Treasure Coast schools while holding offenders accountable for disrupting the peace.
