Vero Beach High School officials are currently investigating an over-the-weekend senior prank on the main campus that escalated into potential vandalism, threatening the graduation privileges of the students involved.
According to School District spokesperson Kyra Schafte, the incident involved several disruptive actions that crossed the line of acceptable behavior. Actions discovered on the campus included:
- Deploying toilet paper across the grounds
- Flipping over chairs and tables
- Spraying shaving cream throughout the area
Early this morning, school and district administration were made aware that some of the actions taken approached the line between a prank and behavior that could be considered vandalism.
The school district clarified that it will not pursue criminal charges against the participating students. Instead, the administration is handling the issue internally in accordance with the district’s Code of Student Conduct. The primary goal is to hold students accountable without creating long-term negative impacts on their futures. However, serious disciplinary measures will be enforced. Students may face the loss of their privilege to walk at their graduation ceremony, and financial restitution will be required where deemed appropriate.
Following the discovery of the incident, Vero Beach High School Principal Rachel Finnegan sent a firm message to parents regarding the event. She emphasized that any prank causing a disruption to the normal functioning of the school environment will not be tolerated, urging students to reflect on their hard work and avoid ruining their senior year over a poor decision.
The district noted it remains committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and orderly learning environment for all students and staff as the academic year draws to a close.
