The vibrant community of Gifford in Vero Beach is gearing up for a day of unity, culture, and remembrance. The upcoming Juneteenth Celebration is set to take place at the Victor Hart Sr. Community Enhancement Complex, offering residents across Indian River County a meaningful opportunity to honor history and embrace community spirit.
Hosted jointly by the T&T Community Enhancement Organization In Action and the Indian River County Parks and Recreation Department, the event promises a welcoming atmosphere filled with electric energy. The festivities are scheduled to run throughout the afternoon, providing a perfect weekend outing for Treasure Coast locals.
“This will be a great day for the kids and their families,” said Teddy Floyd, co-organizer for this year’s Juneteenth event.
Attendees can look forward to a robust lineup of live entertainment designed to celebrate heritage and foster local unity. The gathering will feature a live D.J., carefully curated musical selections, and educational speeches reflecting on the historical significance of Juneteenth. Adding to the energetic atmosphere, the event will showcase a performance by the Vero Beach High School cheerleaders and a highly anticipated appearance by the Bahamas Junkanoo International Band. Children will also be able to enjoy dedicated activities, including face-painting.
Food lovers will find plenty to savor, with a wide array of classic soul food and barbecue staples available throughout the complex. Local food trucks and vendors will be serving up mouth-watering ribs, fresh seafood, blue crabs, fried fish, hot dogs, and boiled peanuts. To help attendees beat the Florida summer heat, there will be refreshing lemonade, juice trucks, and a dedicated sweet treat truck.
Beyond the food and music, the celebration will highlight local creators and small businesses. Guests can browse and purchase commemorative Juneteenth shirts, arts and crafts, Mary Kay jewelry, and even poetry books penned by local author Natasha Crumpler.
Families looking to maximize their weekend fun can also take advantage of a generous community offer right next door. The Gifford Aquatic Center is participating in the celebration by offering free admission to the first 150 children who arrive.
