Residents and professionals across the Treasure Coast experienced a digital hiccup on Tuesday when the St. Lucie County Clerk and Comptroller’s website went offline for several hours. Fortunately, local officials have confirmed that the outage was a technical glitch, not a malicious cyberattack, ensuring that sensitive public data remains entirely secure.
The disruption began early Tuesday morning, with the county’s IT department receiving reports of website issues just before 8:00 a.m. Visitors attempting to access the main homepage were unexpectedly redirected to an entirely different, unrelated website. Recognizing the severity of the issue, the agency’s IT Director, Jose Clavijo, immediately took the homepage offline to launch a comprehensive investigation. Thanks to swift action, the main portal was successfully restored and fully operational by approximately 1:30 p.m.
The St. Lucie County Clerk’s office faced a temporary redirection issue caused by a third-party service provider. Officials stress that this was not a hack, and no personal or confidential information was compromised at any time.
St. Lucie County Clerk and Comptroller Michelle Miller quickly addressed the public via social media, providing a swift reassurance regarding data privacy. Miller emphasized that the public-facing homepage does not house sensitive personal information, making it virtually impossible for resident data to be breached during this specific type of third-party routing error.
Even while the main homepage was offline, county operations did not grind to a halt. According to IT officials, core functional portals remained completely active and accessible to the public through direct links. Residents were still able to access essential tools, including:
- Online payment portals
- Property fraud alert services
- Direct clerical service applications
The St. Lucie County Clerk’s Office is currently working closely with its service providers to pinpoint the exact root cause of the redirection. Clavijo assured the public that once the exact technical fault is diagnosed, the department will implement a massive remediation strategy. This proactive approach aims to strengthen the county’s digital infrastructure and ensure Treasure Coast residents do not face similar interruptions when handling their local government business in the future.
