A 61-year-old Sebastian man was tased and arrested last Thursday after allegedly hurling stones into oncoming traffic and striking a police officer. The incident occurred along Roseland Road, a heavily traveled thoroughfare in northern Indian River County.

According to the Sebastian Police Department, the confrontation began when a local motorist reported a man walking into the roadway, deliberately trying to slow down passing vehicles. The suspect was also seen aggressively banging on a driver’s truck door. Upon arriving at the scene, a Sebastian police officer directly observed the suspect carrying a red bucket from his driveway and tossing items, described as stones, into the active roadway.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Allen Nadeau, denied throwing the objects. He informed the responding officers that they could not be on his property without a warrant. Despite clear verbal commands to stop, Nadeau continued retreating toward his garage.

The situation quickly turned violent when Nadeau allegedly pushed the officers away, assumed a fighting stance, and punched an officer directly in the chest. Law enforcement successfully deployed a Taser to subdue him before he could enter his garage.

Following the altercation, Nadeau was taken into local custody. He was formally booked on the following felony charges:

  • Battery on a law enforcement officer
  • Resisting an officer with violence
