A tragic discovery in the Treasure Coast community of Fort Pierce on Wednesday morning has prompted an active investigation by the Fort Pierce Police Department. Shortly after 9:00 a.m., a local citizen flagged down a patrolling officer to report a body floating in the lake at Lincoln Park, situated near the 400 block of North 13th Street.

Emergency rescue crews quickly arrived at the scene to pull the individual, who was found face down in the water, from the lake. Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Fort Pierce Police Major Michael Santiago stated that authorities have identified the victim as a Black male, estimated to be between 30 and 32 years old. His identity is being withheld out of respect for the family until his next of kin can be fully notified.

While there were no immediate signs of physical trauma on the victim, officials noted that the body appeared to have been in the water for an extended period of time prior to the discovery.

Detectives are working diligently to piece together the man’s final moments and determine exactly how he ended up in the Lincoln Park lake. To gather more information, the police department is currently:

  • Canvassing the surrounding neighborhood to speak with potential witnesses.
  • Searching for any available security or surveillance footage from nearby properties.
  • Evaluating the currents within the waterway to see if the body may have drifted from a different location.

At this early stage in the investigation, authorities have not confirmed whether foul play or substances were involved. The Fort Pierce Police Department is waiting on the medical examiner’s final autopsy and toxicology reports to officially determine the exact cause of death. Local residents will be updated as more information is released to the public.
