Vero Beach locals and travelers passing through the immediate area have a delicious new reason to look forward to their morning commute and lunch hour. Broogie’s, a brand-new breakfast and lunch deli, has officially opened its doors on Aviation Boulevard, bringing a taste of authentic Northeastern deli culture to the Treasure Coast.
Broogie’s brings decades of traditional deli expertise to Vero Beach, offering an expansive menu of hot and cold specialty sandwiches, customized omelets, and hearty lunch classics conveniently located near the Vero Beach Regional Airport.
Owner Brian Abel, who originally hails from Brooklyn, New York, brings a wealth of culinary and hospitality experience to his new Florida venture. The deli’s unique moniker, “Broogie,” is an affectionate childhood nickname given to Abel by his older sister, Michelle. After successfully owning and operating five delis in Connecticut between 1988 and 2017, Abel and his wife, Dori, relocated to Vero Beach. The move was initially intended as a quiet retirement near the ocean after Dori transitioned to remote work during the coronavirus pandemic. However, missing the daily customer interactions and the bustling atmosphere of the food business, Abel soon realized he was not quite ready to hang up his apron.
The menu at Broogie’s is thoughtfully designed to satisfy both early risers and the midday lunch crowd. For breakfast, patrons can enjoy classic staples and hearty specialties, including fully customized omelets and signature items like the New Yorker breakfast sandwich, which comes stacked with pastrami, Swiss cheese, grilled onions, Russian dressing, and two eggs. Another morning favorite is The Cure, featuring a choice of meat, cheese, hash brown, and chili.
Lunchtime visitors are greeted with an impressive selection of hot and cold sandwiches, fresh salads, and comforting classics. Highlighted deli creations include:
- Doc Bob: A satisfying build of breaded chicken cutlet, roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella, and basil mayo.
- Goodfella: Prosciutto paired with roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella, arugula, and a balsamic vinaigrette.
- Robby: Honey turkey, cranberries, arugula, smoked gouda cheese, and basil mayo.
- Tanner Burger: A highly creative twist featuring a burger nestled inside a grilled cheese, topped with Russian dressing and coleslaw.
In addition to these signature sandwiches, the deli serves up traditional staples like Reubens, Cubans, cheesesteaks, meatball parmigiana, chicken fingers, and classic hot dogs that can be loaded with chili, bacon, cheese, or sauerkraut. Diners can also opt for lighter fare, such as a traditional Cobb or Caesar salad.
