Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s historic victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza. While often mistaken for Mexican Independence Day, this holiday is widely celebrated in the United States to honor Mexican American culture, heritage, cuisine, and music.
