Treasure Coast Pet Lovers Unite for Responsible Dog Ownership Day in Fort Pierce

For families and pet enthusiasts across the Treasure Coast, this weekend offers a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our four-legged friends while supporting a vital local cause. The Treasure Coast Kennel Club has partnered with the Dogs and Cats Forever Animal Sanctuary to host Responsible Dog Ownership Day, an engaging and educational community event in Fort Pierce.

Taking place this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the free-admission event will be held at the Dogs and Cats Forever Animal Sanctuary located at 4600 Selvitz Road. As local animal rescues throughout Florida continue to face overcrowding and critical supply shortages, this gathering aims to connect families with the resources they need to be successful pet owners, ultimately helping to keep more animals in their forever homes.

The core mission of Responsible Dog Ownership Day is to provide the community with essential pet education, raise awareness for shelter adoptions, and gather much-needed supplies so that fewer dogs are returned to local rescues.

Attendees can look forward to a packed schedule of family-friendly activities and educational showcases. Highlights of the event include:

  • Live dog training and agility demonstrations, featuring a special showcase by the Fort Pierce canine unit.
  • Educational sessions focused on therapy and service dogs, as well as general obedience training.
  • An interactive scavenger hunt for children, allowing them to collect vendor vouchers in exchange for a free raffle ticket.
  • Exciting raffle opportunities with prizes including a television, gift baskets, and gift cards.
  • Food trucks and bounce houses to keep the whole family entertained.

In addition to the festivities, the event serves as an urgent donation drive. While admission is completely free, organizers are highly encouraging attendees to bring unopened pet supplies. The first 50 guests to arrive with a donation will receive a complimentary event swag bag.

If you are planning to donate, shelter leaders note that they are currently in critical need of:

  • Unopened dog and cat food
  • Flat sheets, which are currently needed for puppies
  • Clean blankets and towels

For those looking to expand their family, several rescue dogs will be featured and available for future adoption, including a sweet 9-year-old terrier named Libby. Whether you are a long-time dog owner looking for training tips or a Treasure Coast resident wanting to support local shelter animals, this weekend’s event in Fort Pierce promises to be an uplifting and impactful day for the community.
