The Vero Beach High School baseball team is officially heading back to the state championship tournament. Driven by a harmonious blend of seasoned veterans and impactful newcomers, the local squad secured its second Final 4 appearance in three seasons after a dramatic extra-inning victory on their home diamond.

Vero Beach High School advanced to the Class 7A Final 4 by defeating Park Vista High 7-6 in an eight-inning thriller, completing a sweep of the best-of-three regional final series and extending their current winning streak to 10 consecutive games.

Playing in sweltering weekend heat in Vero Beach, the team faced a formidable opponent in second-seeded Park Vista. The matchup offered a highly anticipated chance for redemption, as Park Vista had eliminated top-seeded Vero Beach in the deciding game of the regional semifinals just last season. This time around, Vero Beach flipped the script, defending their impressive 15-1 home record and punching their ticket to Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers.

According to Head Coach Bryan Rahal, currently in his 14th season leading the program, the team’s postseason success has been heavily fueled by a welcoming locker room culture. The veterans successfully mentored incoming transfer students, allowing them to step up in pivotal moments to complement a core of long-time players.

Key Performances from the Regional Final Sweep:

  • Charles Singletary IV: The transfer student provided a massive offensive spark, launching his third home run of the season to help tie the second game at 5-5. He later ignited the game-winning rally in the eighth inning with a crucial double down the third-base line and a stolen base.
  • JT McLaughlin: Answering the call in a high-pressure relief situation, McLaughlin pitched two hitless and scoreless innings. His efforts kept Vero Beach alive after the team fell behind 5-3 in the fourth inning.
  • Cody Morgan: The senior veteran anchored the pitching staff in the first game of the series. Morgan tossed six stellar innings, allowing only one run and three hits while striking out seven. The dominant performance marked his 30th career victory and pushed his season strikeout total to 104 with a remarkable 1.00 earned run average.
  • Jaxon Pomar and Colt Miller: Both transfers played vital roles in the final game. Pomar delivered a clutch RBI single in the eighth inning and executed a strategic rundown play that allowed the winning run to cross the plate. Miller then took the mound in the bottom of the eighth to secure the final three outs, earning his third save of the year.
  • Caleb Wood: The veteran slugger powered the offense in Game 1, recording three hits, three RBIs, and hitting his team-leading fifth home run of the season.

The journey to the Class 7A-Region 3 championship was a collective triumph. Relief pitchers like Brayden Schlitt and Hunter Johnston, who saw minimal innings during the regular season, executed flawlessly when called upon in the decisive game, with Johnston officially earning the mound victory.

With an unwavering team-first attitude, Vero Beach now sets its sights on the Final 4 in Fort Myers. For the coaching staff and this deeply connected roster, the remainder of the season is about cherishing the journey, embracing the community’s support, and competing for the ultimate prize in Florida high school baseball.
