The Vero Beach High School baseball team is peaking at the perfect time, recently securing their third consecutive Class 7A-District 10 championship in dominant fashion. In a resounding victory that highlighted both offensive firepower and pitching depth, Vero Beach blanked Treasure Coast High School 9-0 on their home diamond.
The championship game, played on Thursday, April 16, 2026, was essentially decided early as the Vero Beach offense erupted for nine runs in the first three innings. This commanding performance followed a 10-0 shutout against St. Lucie West Centennial in the district semifinals earlier in the week, pushing the team’s impressive overall record to 19-4 for the season.
A key catalyst for the recent offensive surge has been junior catcher Dom Lopez. Recently moved to the second spot in the batting order, Lopez has thrived in his new role. Against Treasure Coast, he delivered a run-scoring triple in the second inning and followed it up with a momentous three-run home run in the third—the very first home run of his high school career. His performance built on momentum from the semifinal, where he went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
“He has jump-started us a little bit with some energy, toughness and great at bats,” noted Vero Beach coach Bryan Rahal, praising Lopez’s leadership behind the plate and his ability to spark the lineup.
While the offense provided early run support, the Vero Beach pitching staff ensured the Titans never found their footing. The combined shutout against Treasure Coast was anchored by senior right-hander Brandon Walker, who navigated the first five innings. Walker scattered five hits while maintaining his undefeated season record. Senior right-hander Colt Miller then came on in relief to cleanly retire all six batters he faced over the final two innings. Key pitching highlights for the Vero Beach squad include:
- Brandon Walker: Improved his season record to a flawless 8-0, lowering his stellar earned run average to 0.54 with 70 strikeouts across 52 innings.
- Colt Miller: Holds a 3-0 record with two saves and 46 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings of work.
- Cody Miller: Set the tone for the tournament by dominating the district semifinal against Centennial with a five-inning, one-hit performance that featured 10 strikeouts.
Treasure Coast High School, which fell to 10-10-1 on the season, struggled to capitalize on early opportunities. The Titans put runners on base in each of the first five innings but ultimately stranded six, including three in scoring position. Vero Beach has maintained a significant historical edge in this local Treasure Coast rivalry, winning 16 consecutive games against the Titans and claiming 27 of their last 32 meetings dating back to 2009.
Looking ahead, the path deeper into the playoffs runs right through Indian River County. Ranked first in Region 3 according to the latest Florida High School Athletic Association standings, Vero Beach has secured home-field advantage for the duration of their regional playoff run. Meanwhile, Treasure Coast awaits the final regional brackets to see if their ranking will be enough to secure a top-eight spot, which could potentially set up a quarterfinal rematch in Vero Beach.
With a combination of disciplined plate appearances and relentless pitching, the Vero Beach baseball program continues to set the standard for athletic excellence in the district.
