Four high school softball teams across the Treasure Coast secured coveted district championships this week, showcasing exceptional athletic talent on the diamond. Highlighting the week’s local sports triumphs were intense title victories from Vero Beach, Master’s Academy, Okeechobee, and South Fork.

Vero Beach Dethrones Centennial in Emotional 7-7A Victory

In a thrilling matchup, Vero Beach defeated the three-time defending champion St. Lucie West Centennial Eagles 5-4, capturing the District 7-7A title for the first time since 2022. The victory was a powerful moment for Vero Beach head coach Aquaria Baines, a former Vero player who successfully navigated the season while expecting her second child.

Vero Beach took control of the game during a massive five-run third inning. Senior shortstop Kylie Williams delivered the most critical swing of the evening, crushing a three-run home run to extend Vero’s lead. Defensively, sophomore pitcher Taylor Stevens showcased immense composure in the circle. Despite facing high pressure in the final frame with the tying run on third base, Stevens induced a game-ending lineout to seal the championship.

Vero Beach reclaimed the District 7-7A softball championship for the first time in two years by utilizing a five-run third inning and clutch late-game pitching to snap St. Lucie West Centennial’s undefeated district streak.

Master’s Academy Secures First Title in Seven Seasons

In District 13-1A, Master’s Academy dominated the field with a resounding 11-0 run-rule victory in six innings over Merritt Island Christian. The Patriots controlled the pace of the game entirely, earning their first district championship in seven years.

The Patriots’ dominant performance was anchored by several standout players:

  • Aubrey Grall: The sophomore pitcher was untouchable, recording 13 strikeouts while allowing just one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings. She also tallied a team-best three hits at the plate.
  • Alison Viersma: The senior drove in a team-high three runs and contributed a crucial double.
  • Scarlett Grall and Abigayle Parrott: Both athletes delivered multi-hit performances to keep the offensive momentum rolling.

Okeechobee and South Fork Add to Treasure Coast Hardware

The Okeechobee Brahmans battled back from the brink of defeat to win the District 14-4A championship 7-5 against Jensen Beach in eight innings. Down to their final out in the seventh, junior Audra Friend lined a clutch two-run single to tie the game. Junior pitcher Charisma Micco successfully escaped multiple jams, allowing Okeechobee to capitalize on extra-inning errors to secure back-to-back district titles.

Meanwhile, the South Fork Bulldogs secured their third consecutive District 14-5A championship with a commanding 14-0 win over Forest Hill in just five innings. Junior Rachel Kramer paced the offense with three RBIs, while pitcher Mackenzie Brown struck out ten batters in a flawless five-inning shutout.

Sebastian River Edged Out by Bayside

In District 13-5A action, Sebastian River’s bid for back-to-back district titles was unfortunately halted. The Sharks fell 4-2 to the Bayside Bears in a hard-fought contest on their home field.

As the district tournaments draw to a close, these triumphant Treasure Coast squads now look ahead to the regional playoffs. Top-performing local teams, including Vero Beach and Master’s Academy, are currently awaiting final regional seeding to determine their paths toward a state championship.
