In a significant professional achievement that directly benefits the Indian River County community, Jonathan Orozco, the Development Director for The Source, has been awarded the prestigious Grant Professional Certified credential. Issued by the Grant Professionals Certification Institute, this designation is reserved for individuals who demonstrate exceptional knowledge, integrity, and real-world experience in the highly specialized field of grantsmanship.

Orozco now joins an elite group of slightly more than 600 grant professionals who have successfully attained this credential. Accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, the certification requires candidates to meet rigorous eligibility standards encompassing formal education, hands-on professional experience, ongoing development, and active community involvement. Furthermore, candidates must pass a comprehensive two-part written examination. This rigorous testing evaluates a candidate’s proficiency in several critical areas, including:

  • Building effective grant applications and project designs
  • Conducting extensive funding research and funder cultivation
  • Navigating organizational development and grant management
  • Maintaining strict adherence to the professional Code of Ethics

Local leaders have quickly praised Orozco’s milestone, recognizing the direct impact his fundraising expertise has on Vero Beach’s vulnerable populations. Anthony Zorbaugh, Executive Director of The Source, emphasized the importance of accountability and excellence in their community funding endeavors.

Jonathan has continually and successfully guided and shaped the outcomes of our funding endeavors and we are proud of how he has demonstrated excellence by attaining the GPC credential.

Doug Sweeny, a long-time donor to The Source and an active participant in various Vero Beach community organizations, also commended Orozco’s dedication and high ethical standards. Sweeny noted that Orozco’s work extends far beyond basic fundraising, as he has been instrumental in the creation and sustained success of several local initiatives aimed at uplifting marginalized residents.

Jonathan is an extremely hard-worker and compassionate and always displays the highest ethical practices expected by GPCI standards. In addition to fund-raising, he has helped guide the Source in creating the many successful Dignity programs including the Dignity Ranch, Dignity Bus and Community Works.

Operating as a Christian social outreach ministry since 1995, The Source has been a cornerstone of support for the homeless, needy, and struggling families throughout Indian River County. At their full-service reSource Center, local residents can register as members to access life-changing amenities and begin restoring their lives. The organization’s comprehensive services include the pioneering Dignity Bus Mobile Shelters, restaurant-style hot meals, clothing provisions, mental health counseling, hygiene facilities, and essential mailing and telephone services.

With Orozco’s newly certified expertise driving their grant acquisition efforts, The Source continues to fortify its ultimate, overarching mission: the complete eradication of homelessness within Indian River County.
