Vero Beach is preparing to say goodbye to a historic staple of its vibrant local retail scene. The Beach Shop, a beloved coastal clothing retailer located near Sexton Plaza on Ocean Drive, has announced it will officially close its doors on July 1. This marks the end of an era for the cherished local business, which has operated for over seven decades.
Founded in 1950 by Jackie Zorn, The Beach Shop holds a special place in regional history as one of the original storefronts on North Hutchinson Island. In 1966, the Bireley family took ownership, cultivating the boutique into a premier destination for coastal fashion. Over the years, the store has served as a memorable fixture within the Vero Beach community, widely celebrated for its curated local styles and its highly anticipated spring fashion shows.
Martin Bireley, who officially joined the family’s Ocean Drive operations in 2008, expressed profound gratitude for the community’s decades of unwavering support as the family transitions into retirement.
“It has been an incredible honor to be part of the fabric of this community for so many years. While it’s bittersweet to close this chapter, we are looking forward to traveling, slowing down and most importantly, soaking up every second with our family, children and grandchildren,” stated Martin Bireley.
Key details regarding the upcoming closure:
- Historic Legacy: The Beach Shop has served residents and visitors for more than 75 years, first opening its doors in 1950.
